Twenty-two suspects were arrested in the Cape Town Central police precinct last night during an eight-hour night patrol which ended at 04:00 this morning (3 August).

In a joint operation,police, Law Enforcement, Metro Police officers and neighbourhood watch volunteers combed the streets for suspicious activity.

Cape Town Central Police Station spokesperson Captain Ezra October said that charges made included 14 for drunken driving, three each for the possession of dangerous weapons and drugs, two for the possession of imitation firearms and a charge of possession of car break-ins. 

Two women, who were allegedly linked to car break-ins, were among the suspects arrested.

In a statement issued by the police, the chairperson for the Garden's Neighbourhood Watch, Anthony Rees, said that the two women had been accomplices in various car break-ins in Gardens over the past month. "Their male accomplice was arrested in Roodehek Street last Sunday (28 July)," Rees said.

According to October, 99 fines to the value of R96 400 were also issued during the patrol.
