A total of 54 packs of pads in variations of eight, 12, 16 and 24s were collected as part of an initiative hosted at the Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday.

Zumba instructor Bevil Lakay hosted the session, calling on a donation of a pack of sanitary towels in exchange for a great and fun work out.

The session featured popular music and easy enough activities for all ages

The event was held at the Alliance Francaise building in Portlands.

Lakay, who is also part of the local Lions Club, says there is a big need for sanitary towels in the area.

“There is a large lack of sanitary towels for girls in the Western Cape and as the Lions Club we started this collection initiative in Woman’s Month, in August. This is a project we must continue. It is something girls need every month and even though the vat has been removed, we hope it will be made free for girls,” he says.

The women were dressed in shades of pink in commemoration of Breast Cancer awareness month.

The fair is held every month and made their return on Saturday after the winter break.
