‘Parade of safety forces’ today

2015-12-01 06:00

As proof of the City council’s readiness for the festive season, about 80 officers from various safety and security organisations will take to the streets of ward 54.

The “show of force” will see officers from the City of Cape Town’s safety and security directorate, the police and the Sea Point Improvement District and members of the National Sea Rescue Institute parade through the streets today.

Ward councillor Jacques Weber estimates about 35 vehicles will join the 80 staff members in the parade.

“The parade will stop outside shopping centres or in key hubs and hand out safety leaflets and other items to members of the public. Once this has been completed, the officers will break away and perform policing and safety operations throughout the area, from Green Point to Camps Bay.”

The event aims to create visibility, prevent crimes and educate the public on safety matters, Weber says.

“Such events highlight the City and the ward’s readiness for the festive season and warn criminals that they will be caught. We are also going to see a huge deployment of officers to the area who will deal with various issues on the day,” he says.
