Park upgrade to focus on fitness

2018-02-13 06:00

Upgrades to Skinna and Myeza parks are expected to be completed over the next few months.

Upgrading work is currently taking place at both these parks, confirms Mayco member (South) Eddie Andrews.

“The City’s Recreation and Parks Department made funding available for the upgrade of these two parks due to the lack of recreational facilities in the area,” he says.

“New polywood benches were installed at Skinna Park during November and December. Benches will also be installed at Myeza Park during this financial year.”

The upgrade includes the installation of outdoor gym equipment, Andrews says.

“The outdoor gym equipment installation has recently been completed at Myeza Park while gym equipment was already installed a while back at Skinna Park.

“Double walkers, twin push-chairs and sit-up frames have been installed at Myeza Park,” he says.

“Outdoor gyms provide the opportunity for residents to live a healthier lifestyle, with the goal of improving and promoting overall fitness levels and physical health.”

Parts of the exposed and sandy areas at both parks will be hardened and tarred during this financial year, Andrews says.

“Other plans include the installation of rubberised matting, subject to the availability of funds at a later stage.

“Polywood benches will be installed at Myeza Park after the completion of the resurfacing of the park this year. The current upgrades will be completed by 30 June.”
