Patients relocated for build

2018-01-23 06:00

The Department of Health will on Sunday 21 January temporarily relocate all mental health care patients accessing the Mitchell’s Plain Hospital Emergency Centre (EC) due to construction and maintenance work scheduled to take place at the EC over the next six months.

During the first phase of construction, the male mental health care patients will be transferred to the Mitchell’s Plain Hospital’s 72-hour ward on the ground floor.

All female mental health care patients will be transferred to the Lentegeur Hospital’s Magnolia Ward (Ward 91).

Visitors are requested to enter Lentegeur via Highlands Drive in order to gain access to the Magnolia Ward.

Management has put systems in place to ensure a smooth transition from the EC to these temporary wards.

A strict security system has been put in place to monitor all patients. Visitors are asked to adhere to staff instructions on safety and security measures. The hospital management requests that the community be mindful and not misuse emergency services during the construction period. Construction will take place over a period of six months, and clients are urged to practice patience during this process, as the ultimate aim is to maintain the health and safety standards of the patients.

The community will be informed of further patient relocation decisions during the various phases of the EC construction project.
