Personal best for fighter

It was a night of tears and determination for members of two local martial art schools on Saturday as they watched their teammates compete in an amateur women’s fight hosted by Ultimate Warriors Fight Promotions.

More than 500 people supported the match at Omarias Park in Milnerton. Fighterz Inc’s Qaanita Abrahams took home the trophy after an intense fight against Camp Fight’s Devin Rae Gouws.

The young mother says it was a personal achievement to compete in front of hundreds of spectators at the event.

“I wanted my fight to make a statement, for people to not see women as weak. We are strong, physically and mentally, and we can endure and overcome so much,” says Abrahams.

“It took a lot of courage and hard training. I feel like it grew me as a person and a woman.

“To all mothers out there, I would like to inspire you to realise that you have courage; you have inner strength to face, overcome and take on any challenge life throws at you. You were made strong as a woman.”

Fighterz Inc owner Fidaah Edrees says he is proud of his students’ achievements.

“Qaanita is a strong mother of two and a woman entrepreneur, working two ventures. This mom just proved to all women that nothing is impossible,’’ he says. “Qaanita fought all three rounds strong and lost only via split decision at one point.”
