A delegation of the community of Hanover Park submitted a petition with 1 344 names to the provincial health department in a bid to show solidarity against the moving of their health centre out of the community.

The petition was delivered by Pastor Issel Simmers representing the Hanover Park Ministers Fraternal, Rene Baron of the Hanover Park Business Forum and Diane Constable chairperson of the Hanover Park Social Development Forum.

Baron says the petition conveyed a “strong message by the people of the area that they oppose the decision by the Department of Health to move the Community Health Centre of Hanover Park out of Hanover Park”. “The petition is supported by the residents, organisations, various community sectors and the Ward Committee of Hanover Park,” she says.

She further adds the community is furious that no consultation took place.

Such a decision will be of great inconvenience to the elderly, chronic patients and emergencies amongst others, she says.

“The community and the municipality have proposed another site more convenient for the erecting of a new Community Health Centre that will run in conjunction with the proposed development for Hanover Park.”
