As part of an annual charity event, a local family has donated toys to 300 local children.

The Salwarys, owners of the pharmacy in Lentegeur, run regular community projects and have been handing out toys annually since the 1990s.

“The toys were donated as part of the Toy Run,” says Rasheda Salwary.

The children all attend crèches in the Lentegeur area and the handover took place on Wednesday last week in the Lentegeur Library hall.

“This initiative is important to me as I see great joy on the faces of the children when handing out the toys to them. That makes me very happy,” she says.

“Mr Salwary and I have been at Lentegeur pharmacy for almost 35 years and I have seen the struggle of our community in the area. My heart goes out to them and we always try and assist wherever and whenever there is a need.”

Their selfless nature has seen the donation become an annual initiative.

The children were also treated to sweets and clothing.
