A group of six determined little dog lovers walked all the way from Philippi Farms to the Animal Welfare Society Philippi's clinic to have their dog, Kleintjie, seen to.

Jacques Le Roux, veterinary nurse and assistant at the clinic, posted a picture of the six with their mixed-breed Maltese puppy on the society's Facebook page yesterday (2 November). The group had brought Kleintjie in over worries that the pup might be having some flea problems.

Says Le Roux: "They saw fleas on him and wanted to know what to feed their dog. We gave Kleintjie a full medical assessment and he will be getting sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for ticks and fleas."

Le Roux commended the youngsters for their care of Kleintjie, and said he was grateful the children would now be educating others in their area about animal care.

"These children will without a doubt spread the word to other children in their community, about how to best care for their pet and to bring them to our hospital for help and guidance. This is why education is so important in the communities."
