Pistol, ammo and dagga found

Athlone police arrested a 39-year-old man in Bokmakierie on Saturday after he was found with an illegal firearm and drugs.

According to Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman, officers received information on a possible illegal firearm at a residence in Eighth Avenue.

“On searching the house, officers found a .38 Special firearm, ammunition and dagga. A 39-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on ­Monday.

“Athlone Police Station commander Colonel Mark Adonis thanked his officers for work well done and thanked the community for being the ears and eyes of the police.”
