Play a tune for parties

2018-11-13 06:02

Are you able to create a pleasurable melody, playing the piano?

That skill might be just what is needed to put a smile on the faces of the many people who will attend Christmas celebrations at the Uncle Paul’s Christmas Parties in Wynberg this festive season.

The parties are organised by the Rotaract Club of Wynberg and reportedly attract thousands of people every year.

This year’s celebrations will run from Wednesday 21 November to Friday 21 December with a few off nights and charity nights in between.

The parties are aimed at creating warm, enjoyable entertainment for families, and attendees are charged a minimal fee to help raise funds to continue running other projects of the club.

Monique Ewen, the president of Wynberg Rotaract Club, says there will be a set in front of a magical castle to be enjoyed, and children will be treated to evenings of tractor rides, hay fights, visits from Noddy and friends, singing Christmas carols, eating fairy sweets and receiving gifts from Father Christmas.

“Wynberg Rotaract and the Uncle Paul’s team are young adults and solely volunteers. We are not professional programme writers or event coordinators, but just a group of people trying our best to provide a memorable evening for you, as well as to make a difference for those less fortunate than ourselves. Uncle Paul’s runs on the help of volunteers, one of which is a piano player every night. We currently have 20 nights available for piano players. We cannot keep the carols going if we do not find pianists.”

Explaining why it is important for them to have pianists at the celebrations, Ewen says many families that attend the parties are onto their second or third generation and the club is trying to keep some of the best traditions alive.

She says the tradition has been ongoing since 1956.

“If there is anyone who is able to help us out, even if it is just for one night, they can email us at admin@unclepauls.org.za.”
