Phillipi police are urging the community of Hanover Park to come forth with information that will lead to the arrests of culprits responsible for the death of a 47-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man.

They were both found dead with gunshot wounds in different areas on Monday 1 April.

According to the police the first incident happened just after 01:00. The woman was fatally shot and killed in Ruston Road, Hanover Park.

She sustained a gunshot wound to her back.

Medics declared her dead on the scene. Three spent cartridges were found on the scene.

The second incident happened at 06:00. A body of a 46-year-old man was found at Walvis Court in Hanover Park on the morning of Monday 1 April.

The deceased sustained a gunshot wound to his head and medics declared him dead on the scene. One spent cartridge was found on the scene.

According to Captain Lance Goliath investigations are continuing for both incidents in which suspects and the motive behind the killings are still not known. Police are investigating cases of murder.

Goliath has also shared that there have been a number of shootings in the areas but they have since upped their efforts in combating these crimes.

That has also been made possible by the involvement and joint efforts by the community crime fighters.

They are now pleading with the community at large to work with them in order to bring criminals to book.

Phillipi residents who might have information can contact detective sergeant Mveleli Kedama on 021 690 1517 or 073 586 2119 or they can contact Crimestop on 0860 10111

Philippi Police Station commander, Colonel Dennis Abels engaged with the community of Hanover Park at the crime scenes and appealed to the community to help.

He condemned the killings and said that rewards were still being paid for information that leads to the arrest of perpetrators.

A community meeting is scheduled for later this month as a way forward in building community relations and creating a safer environment for the immediate community and the surrounding areas.
