Plumstead building rezoned

2015-12-01 06:00

The proposed application to rezone a property in Plumstead from single residential to general business subzone has been supported by Protea subcouncil 20.

The application states the property will be used as medical consulting rooms, offices and shops.

Ward councillor Elizabeth Brunette said she had no problem with the application as it complied with the road strategy and formed part of future planning.

The application received three objections which pertained to the possible erection of new buildings which do not blend in with the residential character of the area. Another objection states the requested parking departure will add to the traffic congestion of the area and the restaurant or shops would cause noise pollution.

The applicant’s motivation for the proposed rezoning includes that the existence of commercial activities serves to confirm that the application is suited to the area, that low-key uses will have a complementary impact on the established character of the area and that the layout is limited by the need to cater for a future link road.

The applicant says monitoring and surveillance in the area will be improved.

He says the properties on the southern side of Constantia Road are used for similar purposes and the nature of businesses will largely coincide with each other and not conflict. The provincial department of transport and public works also approved the application from its side.
