Woodstock police are combing the crime scene where well-known gang leader, Rashied Staggie (58) was shot and killed this morning (Friday 13 December).

He was shot while sitting in his car in front of his house London Road in Salt River this morning, close to where his twin brother Rashaad died, when he was burnt alive in August 1996.

Brig Novela Potelwa, the provincial police spokesperson, says Staggie died after he was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital.

“Information indicates that the deceased was sitting in his vehicle when two unknown suspects emerged, fired several shots at him and fled on foot. Crime scene experts are currently on the scene combing for clues that could assist the murder investigation,” says Potelwa.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that the shooting which led to Staggie's death was triggered by the murder of a 32-year-old man in Westridge yesterday, Thursday 12 December.

Mitchell's Plain p confirm an alleged drive-by shooting took place in Westridge at 15:30 and that a 16-year-old was also wounded in the shooting.

The pair were standing in De Duin Avenue when they were shot at by a vehicle with several occupants.

Additional resources have been deployed to the area following the incident.

The man is believed to a be a leader of Hard Livings gang, which police confirm they are investigating.

Meanwhile, residents in the Mitchell’s Plain policing precinct are advised that the station is unable to receive telephone calls due to stolen cables surrounding the station and should call 10111.
