Police crack down on drugs

Forty-eight people were arrested in the Wynberg policing precinct in the past week.

Wynberg police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Nqunqeka says they were arrested for drug-related crimes, stolen property, assault and other crimes.

“A total of 12 people were arrested and different cases were opened for drug-related crimes in Station and Langley roads, Diskom Lane and Lower Church Street. Another 10 people were arrested for possession of stolen property.

“One person was arrested for theft out of a car.

“Three people were arrested for housebreaking and theft.

“We had five people being arrested for assault, two for theft, one for robbery with aggravated circumstances, one for the pointing of a firearm, one for reckless driving and a further 12 arrests by the local traffic officials for outstanding traffic warrants,” she says.

One person was arrested for robbery.

“The complainant was assaulted and robbed of his personal belongings.”

Police on patrol in the area arrested the man as he was fleeing the scene.

Six people were arrested when they were found in possession of stolen cars in the area.

The cars had been stolen in Table View and Strand.

Drugs such as heroine, tik, dagga and mandrax were confiscated during last week.

“One person was arrested when 30 units of heroin were found in his possession.

“Police officers were informed by the City of Cape Town, monitoring the cameras in the Wynberg area, of the person who was selling drugs in Lower Church Street, leading to his arrest,” she says.
