Manenberg police arrested a 21-year-old man last Saturday for being in the possession of drugs and stolen property. The suspect was released on bail after appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Captain Ian Bennett, spokesperson for Manenberg Police Station, says the station’s Crime Prevention Unit has recently been deployed to several hotspots to combat gang activities in the area.

“We received information of drug dealing and executed a search at an address in Irvine Street. The suspect was alone at his home at the time of the search, and is a member of a local gang,” he explains.

“We found 430 grams of tik and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition. One suspected stolen bulletproof jacket and a set of two-way radios were also found.”

Bennett adds Manenberg police will continue to clamp down on gang activity using any means within the framework of the law, and will not tolerate gang activity getting out of control. V Anyone with information on crime in the area should call Manenberg Police Station on 021 699 9471.
