Police find tik, heroin in 10 busts

Mitchell’s Plain police arrested 227 people in the last few days of July while also confiscating drugs and firearms.

From Monday 24 to Sunday 30 July, police executed search warrants, high-density patrols and visible policing, as well as stop-and-searches and searched for wanted ­suspects.

Police searched 10 houses where drugs were reportedly kept.

This resulted in the confiscation of 35g dagga, 42 mandrax tablets, 93g tik and 21g heroin.

Police are also investigating six cases related to domestic violence out of 24 cases reported during the week.

Other searches included 48 compliance inspections at liquor outlets.

Two operations were carried out at illegal ­shebeens.

A total of 18 second-hand goods premises and 311 spaza shops were visited.

During the week, 211 people and vehicles were also stopped and searched during 14 vehicle check points.

Six people were arrested for illegal firearms and ­ammunition.

Five tracing operations also led to the arrest of 38 people wanted for various ­offences.

People were also arrested for murder, attempted murder, house breaking and theft, drunk driving, domestic violence and fraud.
