No arrests have been made following the murder of a 33-year-old man in the parking lot of a Rylands nightclub.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, says on Monday (17 April) at 04:00 a 33-year-old man was embroiled in an argument with an unknown person in the parking area of Galaxy nightclub.

Bennett says during the argument, the unknown person opened fire hitting the man four times in the upper body.

“It is not clear what the argument was about. The 33-year-old male succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Many patrons of the nightclub witnessed this shooting but no one has provided information of what transpired and who fired the fatal shots.”

Police are investigating the murder and anyone who has information regarding the shooting is asked to call Athlone Police Station on 021 697 9238 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
