Policing leads to jail time

Woodstock detectives are happy to have secured sentences for five criminals arrested in various cases.

These criminals got a combined sentence of 43 years imprisonment for crimes of armed robbery, hijacking, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, house burglary, car theft and robbery that happened in the Woodstock policing precinct during 2014 and last year.

One person was sentenced to four years after stabbing a victim in his right hand during an argument in Albert Road in 2014.

Another person was sentenced to 12 years after robbing a woman in Chamberlain Street in 2014.

A hijacker was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for hijacking a woman in her car in Lower Main Road, Observatory in 2014.

A car thief was sentenced to six years. In March last year, police followed up on information about a car in Bromwell Street which had been reported stolen during a house robbery.

An armed robber was sentenced to six years after robbing a woman at gun point in Lower Main Road at the beginning of November last year. The robber had been arrested within minutes.

Lieutenant-Colonel Tian Lotz, acting station commander of Woodstock police, has applauded the sentences and assures the community that the Woodstock police will walk the extra mile.
