Families and couples can look forward to a very different way of attending the ballet when Cape Town City Ballet begins its annual outdoor season in the Maynardville Park.

The company will be presenting its popular production Night & Day from Sunday, giving lovers of the dance the opportunity to experience the park’s open-air theatre.

The performance will run every Sunday at 20:15 until 21 February, and couples and families are encouraged to enjoy sundowners and snacks in the leafy park surrounds before the show.

Film inspirationNight & Day is danced to the music of Cole Porter and takes the audience on a romantic journey of the famous songwriter’s extraordinary life and times. The brainchild of Robin van Wyk, choreographer and artistic director of Cape Town City Ballet, the ballet found its inspiration in the award-winning film De-Lovely.

“The ballet is simply spectacular, champagne-popping entertainment, absolutely perfect for enjoying a relaxing Sunday evening out in one of Cape Town’s most beautiful outdoor settings,” Van Wyk says, adding that the piece “caters for just about all tastes in dance”.

This season’s production also features a guest appearance this Sunday by former prima ballerina Tracy Li and her long-time dance partner, Daniel Rajna, as well as live instrumental solos performed at all performances by up-and-coming young jazz musician Jessie Williams on clarinet. V Tickets range between R130 and R150 and are available from Computicket or Artscape dial-a seat on 021 421 7695.
