Post office returns to sender

2016-07-19 06:00

After over two decades of service, the Sea Point Post Office is closing its doors.

The post office, which opened in the ’90s, has been asked to move amid speculation that the building will be undergoing renovations, says Rian de Jager, SA Post Office’s head of retail in the Western Cape.

After years of being inundated with wooden giraffes to post overseas, the staff at the office say they will miss the close proximity to the beach and appreciation (and patience) of the mostly elderly customers.

The post office will close permanently on Saturday 23 July.

From Monday 25 July, registered mail, insured and ordinary parcels addressed for delivery to Sea Point postboxes will be available at the Roggebaai Mail collection point. Foreign parcels, CODs, ordinary parcels and Securemail addressed for delivery to Sea Point postboxes will be forwarded to the Waterfront Post Office.

Employees affected by the closure will be relocated to other branches.
