Two locals have kept to their promise in ensuring a healthier and happier animal population in Mitchell’s plain.

Since February, the Mitchell’s Plain Animal Welfare Society has grown from strength to strength with big dreams ahead (“Saving our furry little friends,” People’s Post, 28 June).

Vanessa Martin, chairperson of the society, says she has always had a love for animals. Through several partnerships, Martin was encouraged to start her own organisation in Mitchell’s Plain and her passion grew from there.

Martin and Shahieda Easton have come together to fight for the rights of animals in Mitchell’s Plain.

The two say they see people lose interest in their pets after they grow old and often starve them or put them down.

And sticking to a promise made in June, the team have delivered on a sterilisation drive, ensuring the services were brought closer to home.

Thanks to their partnership with the Animal Welfare Society in Phillipi they managed to assit more owners in sterilising their animals.
