All high school learners in grades 10 and 11 are invited to submit a short film screenplay to the first screenwriting workshop for aspirant filmmaker by Friday 27 July.

The South Peninsula Inter-School Film Festival kicked off at the end of last term by SAY Media Education in partnership with the Forward Fund Academy in Sunny Acres.

On being chosen, the writer will become the director and the screenplay will be developed into a film using the learners at the high school as the crew and the cast. The learner crew will be trained and mentored through the whole process of making the film. Crew roles include camera, sound, lighting, art department, producer, director, continuity, clapper board operator etc.

The writer-director of the winning film will win a scholarship to study Film and Television Production at ForwardFund Academy.

Bryony Roughton who is the head of the Film and Television Production course at Forward Fund Academy, and who is running the Inter-school Film Festival, has produced over 100 films in schools through similar film competitions.

“A minimum of five short films will be produced with our local schools this year. Forward Fund Academy is hosting a free screenwriting workshop for learners to help them write and enter their short film script for the festival.

“The workshop will take place on Friday 20 July at the ForwardFund Academy, Solaris Office Park, Kommetjie Road at 15:00,” she says.

All high school learners that attend school on the Southern Peninsula are invited to submit their screenplays and have the satisfaction of having their words turned into action on the big screen.
