A group of creative youngsters from Kensington are on a trip to take their peers on a journey to positivity.

The group, calling themselves The Creatives, gathered in First Street on Sunday 16 October to showcase their talents and invite other youngsters to join them.

“We are a collective of musicians, artists, visual artists, skateboarders and small business owners from this area who want to make a difference,” says Samantha Andrews, one of the founding members.

“Our aim is to give the youth an outlet to show the world their creativity and give them the chance to take to the stage with those talents. There is also the chance for them to meet positive rolemodels who have made a success of their lives in the arts and business worlds.”

Members collected second-hand clothes and cooked lunch for some of the disadvantaged families in the area on the day.

“This shows our community that we care about them, but the main focus was the entertainment. We had various artists who showed off their dance moves. Skateboarders from the 20sk8 team were also present to motivate young boarders and give them some tips to improve their skills.”

She adds that they hope to host this type of event regularly.
