Quick response helps nab shop ‘robbers’

2017-10-31 06:00

The quick response of Wynberg police was not what four armed robbers expected when they targeted a shop last Thursday.

Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut, a police spokesperson, says at about 08:00 the robbers fled the scene of the crime in a silver VW Polo with an undisclosed amount of cash after holding the owners of the shop up at gunpoint. “Their path crossed with police who were quick to react on the call. Following a brief pursuit, the robbers abandoned their car and fled further on foot. Two of the suspects, aged 25 and 41, were arrested and the stolen cash was retrieved. The getaway car was also confiscated.

The 25-year-old suspect sustained a gunshot wound and is being treated for his injury.

“The two suspects who managed to evade arrest are being sought. Once charged, the arrested suspects are due to make a court appearance in Wynberg on a charge of business robbery,” he says.
