Pook se Bos informal settlement on the outskirts of Rylands was the scene of a substantial abalone bust on Wednesday night.Mitchell’s Plain cluster and Athlone police units followed up on information and proceeded to an informal dwelling in Pook se Bos at 23:45. “Police officers were greeted by a very large quantity of abalone both shucked and dried being stacked on drying racks and in large containers respectively,” says Philippi police spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath. The estimated street value of the abalone is R2m. The abalone was confiscated and a 25-year-old man was arrested.Deputy cluster commander, Brigadier Mmagauta Letsoalo, is urging the community of Athlone to come forward with more information on crime and the perpetrators thereof. “The police have a reward system whereby good money is being rewarded for positive information supplied to police about crime which results in the successful arrest and prosecution of criminals,” says Letsoalo.
