Bel Porto Primary School in Lansdowne is calling for support of their annual food fair this coming Friday. The school, located in Acadia Avenue, focuses on education for learners with intellectual impairment, cerebral palsy and physical disabilities. Judy Sobotker, an administrator at Bel Porto, says the school is in need of monetary donations to maintain and supplement the shortfall in annual school and transport fees, which 80% of the parents cannot afford to pay. “The food fair not only generates funding but also unites communities to help Bel Porto grow in other ways such as people wanting to volunteer. Your support, however large or small, would be appreciated. Should there be any companies out there willing to help the school, please do not hesitate to contact us,” she says. Sobotker says food items and funds are currently being collected from the public to assist in having a successful food fair on the day. “Donations can be large or small to buy ingredients to have a successful food fair. With the listeriosis epidemic, we have to be very careful about foodstuff so we would prefer to buy it ourselves as we don’t want to be left with sick people after the food fair.”Other items being collected include food sauces, beverages, ingredients for cakes and items like fish oil and flour, as well as packaging items and charcoal, firelighters, wood and brickets for braaing purposes. The event runs from 18:00 to 21:00 and is open to the public, free of charge. V For more information, call Bel Porto School on 021 696 4134.
