A fundraiser aimed at improving the venue of a local educare has been a resounding success.

On Friday more than 200 people gathered at a gala event hosted at Barrons Estate in Ottery to raise funds and celebrate the fourth anniversary of Happy Valley Educare in Strandfontein (“Walk the red carpet for educare”, People’s Post, 17 May).

Funds raised will be in aid of expanding the current premises, says co-founder Lionel Braaf.

“We are not going to go bigger by getting more children – we just want to make the environment friendlier and more suitable to work in,” says Braaf.

They plan to add two classrooms to the back area.

Plans for this are already with the local council.

The envening saw guest speakers and the launch of James Manuel’s second book (“Writing to leave a legacy, People’s Post, 24 May) with guests clad to the nines in aid of the event.

A representitive of People’s Post attended and took these pictures.
