Newly crowned SAB Safa Cape Town League champions FN Rangers celebrated their triumph on Saturday by beating Goal 50 United 4-2 in Heideveld.

The hosts saluted their table-topping counterparts by lining up to form a guard of honour as they entered the field of play before kickoff, while also presenting Rangers with a shield to commemorate their achievement, which left championship-winning coach Arreshaat Daniels touched emotionally by Goal 50 United’s Mario van Niekerk’s gesture towards his team.

In the match itself, United played with vigour and caused panic in the Maitland-based outfit’s defensive ranks.

Prolific Niven Scott from United gave his team an early lead after he latched onto a cross-field ball from Aiden Gouvias in the 10th minute.

Rangers regrouped and pressurised United, causing confusion to erupt, eventually leading to a blunder resulting in an own goal.

With the scores level at the half-time interval, Daniels decided to change his team’s pattern, allowing his hard-working strikers to execute his plan.

Daniel Molopo, Thabiet Baartman and Angolan Antonio Quissanga steered their team to an outstanding victory.

Royston Lindsay scored a powerful header for his team, but his efforts were too late. Daniels paid tribute towards United for the outstanding performance and yet another superclass dominance from his team.

Greenwood Athletic, second on the log, nailed Junction Rovers 4-1 in their encounter at the Solo Street Sports Complex on Friday night.

The fixture was billed as a struggle to secure second on the log behind champions Rangers, with Greenwood holding the advantage before kickoff.

Greenwood coach Lionel Miller sensed that Chrisando de Weber’s team were there for the taking, suffering from fatigue.

Tevin Horn, Kyle Segers, Ryan Adams and Nathan Brown netted goals for the Retreat cabal.

Shafiek Saralina scored for the Heideveld rookies, while Abdurrahman Moses squandered from the penalty spot, which further upset the visiting team.

Coach Miller heralded his team’s attitude in maintaining the solid concentration.

Bluegum United were forced to a 2-2 draw against Kuils River in the first of the matches played in Heideveld on Saturday.

Rameez Jacobs and Shaun Jaars netted for the Bonteheuwel-based team whilst Darryl Rose and Winroy Rooi scored for Kuils River.

Hanover Park narrowly beat Two Oceans Academy 2-1 in the last match to kick off in Heideveld on Saturday.

Two Oceans Academy coach, Fuad Cook, was devastated by his team’s poor performance, knowing that his team find themselves in a relegation battle.
