More than 90 children have started the 2018 school year sporting a new school uniform.

This is thanks to the assistance of a project that encouraged residents to sponsor much-needed clothing and supplies, including school bags, shoes and socks.

The Adopt-a-Child project was implemented in Tafelsig through a partnership between Ursula Peters and Nadia Goliath, with the handover taking place on Friday 12 January (“Skool projek sorg vir ’n blink 2018”, People’s Post, 16 January).

After implementing the project and seeing a greater need, Peters approached radio station CCFM, which in turn mentioned the project on air, urging listeners to contribute to the project.

Odile Swartz, a presenter at the station, says their efforts may have been small, but they are pleased to see the impact they have made.

The station has also pledged its further support of the project.

Peters says she wants to continue this project, starting earlier this year for the next school school year.

The children who benefited from the initiative are from the Tafelsig area, but Peters says they hope to be able to grow the project to assist more children.

Peters says she is extremely grateful to CCFM for their support.

Swartz was joined by fellow presenter Mégan Schilder at an event on Wednesday.
