Record room in line for upgrade

2018-02-13 06:01

The expansion of the records and consulting rooms at Ocean View Clinic is next on the cards, following the completion of other renovations at the clinic.

The City of Cape Town allocated around R800 000 over two years for the upgrade and expansion of the clinic, which includes new consulting rooms and an upgraded reception area. The expansion will provide more operational space to improve service delivery (“Clinic gets more room”, People’s Post, 2 June 2015).

However, the upgrade to the records and consulting rooms has taken a back seat, says Mayco member (South) Eddie Andrews, as other aspects of the renovation had to be completed first. “Due to national requirements, City Health needed to prioritise the pharmacy and bulk store, which have now been completed. The consulting rooms will be attended to in the next financial year.

“The project is currently in the scoping phase. The budget is below R200 000 and does not require a tender process. The expected date of completion is before June 2018.”

The Ocean View facility consists of a reception area, pharmacy, staff room, records room, sluice room, toilets, emergency room and six consulting rooms. The expansion will include extensions to the records room and reception room and two additional consulting rooms.

The staff room may be replaced if the design requires that the consulting rooms are placed where the current staff room is located, he adds.

Around 210 clients attend the clinic daily. This includes residents from surrounding communities such as Masiphumelele.
