Reform needed at hospital

2016-09-13 06:00

I was at Victoria Hospital and I would like to make some sincere suggestions what could be done at Victoria Hospital, Wynberg, to make patients’ experiences more pleasant.

Set up system where the consulting doctors at A and B ward have to each see at least six patients every hour to speed up the process so that patients don’t have to wait over three hours just to speak to a doctor.

Send an undercover inspector as a potential patient to see which doctors perform and which doctors don’t perform. (Recently) I was at the A and B clinic at Victoria Hospital and there three doctors seeing patients in three different rooms.

The woman doctor on duty was seeing four patients for every one patient the other doctors were seeing. The other doctors were too busy chatting to their friends.

Put CCTV cameras at reception where people pay money for an appointment. The clinic starts at 12:00, we arrived at 11:00 already but people who came after us saw the doctor before us.

I think they were paying someone at the reception to write on their folder a time earlier than us.

That is something to investigate.

The dispensary is way too slow. All they have to do is take someone’s script and give them their medicine. This really needs to speed up somehow.

The hospital is dusty and dirty. Dust collects bacteria which is health hazard. Someone needs to vacuum and clean the hospital regularly.

Victoria Hospital needs to hire a caretaker/handyman and have them paint the doctors’ rooms’ doors, fix the broken light switches, fix the broken doors etc.

A hospital should not be in that condition and run like that, state or not.
