Rent office can take cash again

2017-04-11 06:00

The Ocean View rent office is back up and running, after being closed for renovations.

Damage to the cash receipt network points further delayed the processing of payments, causing frustration among residents who say they have been receiving payment notices.

The rent office was closed between 15 and 27 February for renovations, explains Stuart Diamond, Mayco member for assets and facilities management.

The renovations saw the roof replaced and the inside roofing revamped, painting, internal structural alterations and the flooring revamped.

“The office opened for interviews on 28 February. However, the office was unable to process payments due to damage caused to the cash receipt network points.”

“The office has been closed for cash payments from 15 February. The inconvenience of not being able to receive cash is explained to customers who are directed to the various cash receipt pay points. A company known as Trace Online, which is contracted to the City, also has agents who do door-to-door rental collections.”

The problem is being addressed and residents advised to use the Trace Online agents or travel to Fish Hoek. In addition, payments can be made at any Easy Pay point at Checkers, Shoprite or Pick n Pay; Longbeach Mall being the closest. Trace Online is looking into the possibility of accepting payments at the Ocean View housing office, Diamond says.

On Thursday, Diamond confirmed the cash receipt machine was up and running and the Ocean View rent office was accepting cash. “Tenants are encouraged to call at the Ocean View housing office to make arrangements for their rent in arrears. We would like to apologise to our tenants for the inconvenience caused by the renovations and our cash payment systems being unavailable. It was unforeseen that the network would suffer damages,” he says.

“The renovations were necessary to ensure that our customers have a pleasant experience at our City facilities.”
