This marked the second time the event was held in Cape Town, with 30 vehicle extrication and 24 trauma teams competing in various challenges. At the previous event, Cape Town came in 28th position. This year they were up against teams including the Czech Republic, Colombia, Germany and England.Mayco member for safety, security and social services, JP Smith, attended the first day of the competition last Tuesday.“These rescue teams are all impressive and are the best at what they do, which is to save lives. “During the challenge they have an opportunity to show what they can do and test themselves against their peers from around the globe. “They were also able to share techniques and learn from each other. Cape Town is proud to host the challenge and to have had two teams participating,” Smith said.
