The annual Block B family Fun Day was held at the Welkom Street park in Portlands on Saturday.

The event started with an anti-drug march from the park to Montague Drive Primary School where the block watch officially opened their base.

The base will act as a community hub, where residents can take their complaints and will be used to monitor CCTV

They will also strive to keep the office open 24/7.

The event attracts hundreds of residents annually.

Mayco member for safety, security and social services, JP Smith, and MEC for community safety, Dan Plato, were special guests at the event.

The local police also supported the event.
