A free initiative to equip residents with basic life-saving skills was held at the Westridge Civic Centre on Wednesday.

Hosted by the University of Cape Town’s fourth-year medical students, locals were taught beginner’s first aid at the workshop from 09:00 to 12:00. The workshop was held as part of a health promotion project. Local health workers and residents attended the event. The students covered chocking, burns and general revival, what to do if you are bitten by a dog, how to stop bleeding and what to do when you have an asthma attack, complete with pamphlets, demonstrations, and question and answers.
