The Western Cape minister of social development, Albert Fritz, addressed a gathering of 60 women from Strandfontein and the greater Mitchell’s Plain area in celebration of Women’s Day on Thursday at an event hosted by NGO, the Cagloo Foundation.

The event held the theme “We have and shall overcome” and featured talks by officials on health and wealth. Motivational speaker Bernadette Clarke also shared her story.

“[We] remain committed to the task of addressing the issues faced by women, including tackling gender-based violence and any forms of abuse,” said Fritz. “However, commemorating Women’s Day and Women’s Month should not be about viewing women as ‘helpless victims’, as South African women are strong and resilient and must take up their leadership roles in society.”
