Theft out of motor vehicles is on the increase in parking lots of Mitchell’s Plain, warned the police.

In a statement released on Monday 29 April, police said targeted items include batteries, wipers, sound systems and spare wheels.

They said that they have noted that this criminal trend is much more prevalent now.

They made mention of the Town Centre, and they urge shoppers and the residents to take precautions to safeguard their vehicles:

They gave the following tips:

. Ensure that no valuables are visible;

. Make sure that the windows are closed and doors are locked;

. Activate the alarm if you have one;

. Gear locks are also a deterrent to would-be car thieves;

. Make sure that the vehicle is parked in a safe spot;

. Carefully note any guards looking after your vehicle;

. Observe loiterers in parking areas;

. Regularly check in on your vehicle if possible;

. Preferably park where there are cameras.
