The provincial minister of arts, culture and sport, Anroux Marais, is the latest to throw her weight behind the Relay Against Racism.

Over the past few weeks excitement has been brewing around the inaugural Relay Against Racism event, presented by Cycle of Life and People’s Post. It is a family and friendship fun walk aimed at uniting South Africans against all forms of racism and related intolerances.

On Saturday 28 May, Marais – along with singing sensation Salome Damon and local fitness guru Reemay Damon – will be joining Capetonians for the fun-filled walk in the form of 22 laps around the the track of the Green Point Athletics Stadium. Each lap represents one year of our country’s democracy.

Since entries into the event opened to the public scores of people from all walks of life have been going online to enter, says event organiser Rozario Brown.

“Judging by the initial response it is quite clear that South Africans are sick and tired of racism and all the divisions which exist between the various communities and people of the country.

“The Relay Against Racism is a genuine attempt to bring people together and to build better relationships between various communities,” says Brown

The event takes place from 09:00 to 18:00 and includes fun-filled of activities for the whole family – jumping castles, competitions and great music is planned to keep participants entertained and focused on the programme.

Participants are encouraged to dress in black and white sportswear. Companies and corporates are also encouraged to enter individuals and teams into the event.

Prizes and gifts valued at more than R150 000, including a trip on the world famous Blue Train, will be up for grabs.
