Bergvliet, Kreupelbosch and Meadowridge Neighbourhood Watch (BKM Watch) hosted its annual Spring ‘Playdate in the Park’ at Hiddingh Road Park. The playdate takes place twice a year, in March and September, and aims to inform residents about BKM, share recent crime statistics and to answer any queries about membership or patrolling. This event also serves as a convenient opportunity for residents to meet their neighbours and to allow children to burn off some energy.A standard feature of the playdate are the boerie-rolls, hotdogs, coffee and other treats that are on sale. Numerous sponsors came on board for the playdate, including Jumping Connor who sponsored the jumping castle and resident Doug Hardy who made his now-famous fire engine available, giving children and their parents entertaining rides around the block. Various security service providers, such as Chubb, ADT and BH, indulged kids’ curiosity by showing them the inside of their vehicles. BKM was founded in 2006 and is part of the broader Constantia Valley Watches Association (CVWA), and aims to primarily provide sophisticated crime fighting strategies to pre-empt, deal with and curb crime in our area. Whilst BKM works in partnership with local police stations (Kirstenhof and Diep Rivier), the community policing forums, as well as ADT and other security service providers, it relies on the continued support from its residents in terms of community patrolling.
