Santos back to winning ways

Santos nailed Ikapa Sporting 2-0 in an ABC Motsepe Safa Provincial League fixture played in Philippi on Friday night.

The “People’s Team”bounced back after a rocky start to the season. They outclassed the home side by dominating the ball possession stakes, subjecting them to a dismal backyard defeat. In the midfield area it was tricky, with Ikapa putting on a brave attack, but they were let down by their inconsistent strikers. Riverside was struggling against Rebels, who took the upper hand in this crucial tie, and Sibabalo Selanto gave them an early break and blasted the ball past the bewildered goalkeeper. With a first-half deficit the magic in the Riverside camp was unbearable for the Rebels. Jemonde Dickson and Roberto Collins steered their team to a spirited victory by scoring in the 66th and 74th minute.

Table-topping FN Rangers overcame the inconceivable by narrowly beating Two Oceans Academy 3-2 at the same venue for the last kick-off of the day.

Two Oceans were in control for most of this nail-biting encounter whereas the Rangers team couldn’t find their rhythm. The underdogs produced a classy attack against the Maitland outfit. Sherwin Sture, with his mouth-watering lethal right foot, caused mayhem for the Rangers camp. With a stunning brace of goals, Sture inflicted panic in the Rangers defence. In the last ten minutes of this tit-for-tat match, Rangers fought back via the clever inspiration from their coach Arreshaat Daniels. Daniels marshalled his team from the brink of defeat to a magnificent victory. Waylin Smith, Fabian Wareley and Danny Molopi denied Two Oceans the victory after the Rangers strikers salvaged and lifted their team from a tight position minutes before the final whistle.

Junction Rovers demolished Hanover Park 6-0 in their derby played in Hanover Park, with Rovers having gained momentum after lately destroying their opponents with venom. Shafiek Saralina (2), Zuko Miti (2), Antonio Thomas and Ismail Valentine (1 each) netted goals for the ever impressive Rovers team.

Bayview FC revived themselves against Bluegum United in a tense SAB fixture played in Heideveld on Sunday.

In an evenly contested match, both sides played superb soccer. Thristan Ablegas opened the score for the Strandfontein lads after he netted from dribbling past the Bluegum defence. Confusion in the Bonteheuwel camp gave Bayview a further lead after Keenan Charles netted an own goal. Shafwah Christians pulled one back for Bluegum to restore the pride within the losing camp. Rezaan Jacobs, the Bayview coach, was full of excitement and endorsed the victory as another example of good teamwork that added the maximum three points to his team.
