Santos forced into draw

2018-03-06 06:00

Santos were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Glendene in an ABC Motsepe Derby game played in Manenberg on Saturday.

Santos were determined not go down in this grudge match, bearing in mind that they lost to their nemesis in the first round of fixtures.

This meant that Glendene had a psychological advantage over them, but Santos wouldn’t give up with their positive attitude and were determined to overturn their fortunes.

Both teams produced extremely high-quality ball skills in the midfield area, with Santos briefly outmanoeuvring their counterparts, but Glendene steadied their ship with a spirited defensive display and counter-attack.

Minenhle Mwape netted for Glendene while Modou Jatta did it for the People’s Team. The Magic narrowly beat Grassy Park 1-0 in their nail-biting thriller played at Old Mutual Sports Grounds on Friday night.

The visiting team had room for improvement, but failed to capitalise on The Magic’s early struggles.

Lethal Magic striker Damian Warley used his blistering pace to escape Grassy Park’s defence to net the winning goal.

Barcelona FC and Jomo Powers played to a tame 1-1 draw in Beaufort West on Saturday.

The exhausted Jomo team couldn’t settle into the game after their long journey to the Karoo, but managed to bag a valuable point.

Tebogo Moleta netted for the home team whereas Clement Fortyn scored for Jomo.

Goal 50 United were forced into a 1-1 draw against Bayview FC in an SAB Safa Cape Town fixture played in Heideveld on Saturday. United, from the onset of this vital match, were on the attack and caught Bayview by surprise. Instead of maintaining the pressure up front, the United attackers failed to net from well-deserved chances.

In the blink of an eye, the United team fell into disarray and this allowed Bayview’s striker Thristan Abbas to give them an early lead. In the second half, United equalised through Royston Lindsay’s goal.

Bluegum United uprooted Cultural Roots 2-1 in their encounter played in Heideveld on Sunday. The Bonteheuwel-based team United were in command of this clash while Roots failed to counter-attack. Ebrahim Davids, the maestro for the winning team, scored a brace of goals that drowned the Roots camp. Bluegum, which started the season late, are currently under intense pressure, but against all odds are ready to take on the challenge with every opportunity.

Vuyisile Vabaza scored the consolation goal for the NY49 team.
