Santos were forced to settle for a goalless draw against The Magic in an ABC Motsepe Provincial League encounter played at home in Lansdowne on Friday night.

In an evenly balanced game, both sides produced entertaining soccer, but neither side’s strikers could net from several chances.

Meanwhile, Glendene United FC narrowly defeated Atlantic National 1-0.

Atlantic were determined not to lose grip on this epic fixture, but their strikers failed to secure the victory from vital opportunities. Glendene’s team spirit was inspiring, and a lone goal from Moses Fieks ensured that his team had a happy trip back home.

Second-placed Steenberg United bounced back from a midweek defeat to Grassy Park United, to record a 3-1 win over Zizwe United. The result means that they are now six points behind log leaders Ace FC, having played two matches fewer.

Silver Spurs caused a major upset on Saturday at Heideveld Sports Grounds after they edged out Junction Rovers 1-0 in an SAB Safa Cape Town fixture. Rovers played with tenacity and confidence, showing their quality as league leaders throughout this crunch match. Spurs countered the Rovers’ goal area, but the steady defenders could only curb them until Ebrahim Abbas hammered a superb victory goal for his team after he followed up on a Rovers blunder. Despite losing on home turf, Junction Rovers remain atop the standings.

Goal 50 United thrashed Cultural Roots 3-0 in their fixture earlier on at the same venue in Heideveld.

The Heideveld-based team improved after every attack, which caused panic among the visiting team.

Lanky United striker Asher Wrenn gave his side an early lead with another tremendous goal. With the restart of the second half, Aden Gouvias sealed the victory for the vivacious home crowd with a brace of goals for United.
