A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of Mushfeeqa Hanslow (18) from Hanover Park.

Police attended to a crime scene on Tuesday 17 February shortly after 20:00 where they found the deceased with a gunshot wound to the head inside her boyfriend’s Hanover Street home.

Police say the girl’s hands and feet were tied with ropes and her head was covered with a towel and plastic. She was found in the lounge area of the house.

A case of murder under investigation over a period of two days led police to bring the perpetrators to book last week.

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with Hanslow’s death on Thursday 1 March after he was brought into the Philippi Police Station by a legal representative. An immediate manhunt was launched after investigation revealed that another suspect was on the run.

The second breakthrough came last Monday when police arrested a 17-year-old boy in Surdown Walk.

Both suspects appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court last week on a charge of murder. Their next court appearance is set to take place this month.
