The second suspect in the case of the Scarborough surfer’s murder was arrested on Tuesday 21 May.

David Wolfromm was hijacked and placed in the boot of his own car on Wednesday 8 May, after which the car was set alight in Ocean View.

The two suspects involved fled the scene.

The first suspect was arrested on Saturday 11 May in Despina Way, Ocean View, in possession of an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of live ammunition. He appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 21 May and has decided not to apply for bail. This decision was made after the residents of the Deep South tallied up more than 28 000 signatures on a petition not to allow him to apply for bail.

Ocean View police spokesperson Sergeant Leon Fortuin confirmed the second suspect’s arrest, and said he will make his first appearance in court today (Tuesday 28 May).

More than 200 residents bid Wolfromm a fond farewell on Sunday 19 May.

Nadia Petersen, an organiser and one of those who has lost a beloved family member to the senseless violence in Ocean View, shared a few words.“Many carry the pain of loved ones lost – violently ripped away from us and as people, we need each other to overcome it,” she said.
