Senior robbed of pension money

2016-09-06 06:00

A 75-year-old woman was robbed of her pension money on Thursday 1 September at about 10:00.

Swift action by the police ensured a speedy arrest of the 24-year-old suspect on Saturday 3 September.

Grassy Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the woman was walking along Eric Viljoen Walk when the incident occurred.

“The woman was walking in Eric Viljoen Walk in Parkwood, when she was approached by a person known to her (residing in the same road). He pushed her to the ground and took her R1 500 pension money,” Kleinsmith says.

The suspect was arrested after an intensive search for him.

“The station commander Colonel Shawn Van Wyk expressed his disgrace at this hideous crime, as elders grow old, their bodies become physically weak and for perpetrators to take advantage of them is totally disgraceful. He furthermore thanks the detectives for apprehending the suspect. (He appeared) in the Wynberg Magistrate Court on a charge of robbery,” Kleinsmith confirms.

V Anyone with information on crime can call Grassy Park police on 021 700 3940 or CrimeStop at 08600 10111. All information will be treated as highly confidential.
