Established almost three years ago, a local seniors club is growing by the day.

With a waiting list of more than 20 people and a club membership of more than 100 active seniors, the Lentegeur East Concerned Community Seniors Club has been keeping active and socialising weekly.

With games, excursions and keeping each other company, the seniors come in their numbers to their meeting point at the Lobelia Hall every Monday from 10:00 to 13:00.

Cassiem Gamiet, chairperson of the working committee, says the majority of residents are from the Lentegeur area, with a few seniors joining from Beacon Valley.

“We established the Lentegeur East Concerned Community in 2007 and the organisation would always host an annual event for seniors. We realised that there was not a seniors club for the residents,” he says.

Wanting to establish something more permanent, the club was officially started in 2013.

“We play dominoes, klawerjas, socialise and have excursions to places like Avalon Springs, Simon’s Town, Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay,” says Gamiet.

The club also has a committee of 20 people who ensure the seniors are fed and entertained while in their company.
