Services for seniors

2016-04-12 06:00

Seniors in the Rosebank area can make use of a variety of services at the Rosedale Senior Centre in the suburb.

Situated in Lower Nursery Road the facility is owned by the South African Legion of Military Veterans.

Initially flats and cottages were built to assist military veterans and their spouses but it is no longer a prerequisite for admission to have had a military background.

Del Davies, chairperson of the centre, pointed out that the aim of the centre is to provide services and activities for its members and the committee works hard to achieve these objectives.

“We need more members and we invite all over 60’s to join our happy family,” she said.

“You don’t have to live at Rosedale to belong to the Service Centre. Just join us to make new friends and have fun.”

For the annual subscription fee of R48 members can enjoy a variety of services and activities.

“We have tasty home-cooked lunches at a fraction of the going rate and there’s activities such as darts, pool, carpet bowls, table tennis, bridge, canasta and many board games,” she says.

“We also have a well stocked library and host coach rides to places of interest which include a light lunch.”

Davies also pointed out that they will be hosting their annual fete on Saturday 7 May and welcome any donations to the event.

“Please remember us when disposing of anything saleable.

“If transport presents a problem, we can arrange collection. We would also welcome volunteers to help at stalls.”

V For more information about accommodation or activities at the centre call David Holmes on 021 685 1515 during office hours.
