About 50 people have been left homeless after a fire gutted 15 wood and iron shacks in Village Heights - also known as Hill View 2 informal settlement - in Lavender Hill this afternoon (Wednesday 5 April).

Liezel Moodie fire and rescue spokes person confirms the fire. 

"The City's Disaster Risk Management has been notified about the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage. The City's Fire and Rescue Service responded to the fire at about 13:05. There is currently five fire engines and three water tankers with 26 permanent firefighters on scene,” she says.
