Shooter, robbers arrested

Mitchell’s Plain police have made several arrests in connection with four weekend crimes.

In the most recent incident, there was a shooting in Kardouw Street, Tafelsig on Sunday 19 March at 09:00.

It is alleged a man was sitting in front of a house when an unknown man approached him, took out a firearm and started shooting at him.

The victim was not injured.

The gunman then ran towards a white Kia. Investigation resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man for attempted murder.

On Saturday 18 March at 05:45 police were called to the scene of an armed robbery in Sugarloaf Crescent, Tafelsig.

The victim says he was driving a bread delivery truck when he was approached by five men. One of the robbers pointed a firearm at him and his assistant while others searched them and took money and jewellery.

No-one was injured and no shots were fired.

Investigation led to the arrest of three men – aged between 29 and 34 – for the robbery.

The stolen property was also recovered by police.

On Saturday 18 March at 03:15 a car was stolen in Southern Cross Street, Rocklands.

The victim says he was dropping off a friend after a prayer service when he was approached by six unknown men.

The man was threatened with a firearm and the thieves took his car and drove off.

No shots were fired.

An investigation led to the arrest of two suspects. Officers also recovered the car and the victim’s cellphone.

On Friday 17 March at 22:30 police were called to a business robbery at a shop on the corner of Dagbreek and Amandel streets, Westridge.

A man in a hoodie had entered the shop with a firearm and ordered the cashier to put money from the cash register into a bag.

A second robber also entered the shop and took the bag before the two robbers fled in a black Toyota bakkie with a white canopy.

Investigation led to the arrest of three suspects – aged 25, 35 and 50 – as well the recovery of the bakkie used and an imitation firearm.
